With Channel Nine’s Travel Guides more popular than ever, some former stars of The Block are jostling to get in on the jet-setting action!
New Idea has learnt that Sarah-Jane Calleja, who competed with husband Tom on The Block’s 2022 season, has been trying to get cast on the hit series, to no avail.
Sarah-Jane admitted recently that she approached Channel Nine about wanting to join the show. But rather than be a double act with Tom, Sarah-Jane pitched herself and her mum, Tanya, as the perfect new Travel Guides team!
However, Nine put the kibosh on Sarah-Jane’s dreams. Now, New Idea hears producers could have their eye on casting sisters Eliza and Liberty Paschke instead!
The siblings came second in last year’s The Block and have remained firm favourites with Nine. Not only were they regulars on the recently finished health show Do You Want to Live Forever?, but they will also be returning to The Block this year.
The sisters, as well as Sarah-Jane and Tom, are among 22 ‘all-stars’ set to give this year’s new Blockheads a helping hand. They will also take part in a ‘mystery challenge’.
“Eliza and Liberty seem to be Nine’s golden girls,” a source tells New Idea. “They do have the right sort of ‘vibe’ for Travel Guides. They’d be a lot of fun to watch and wouldn’t be afraid to get amongst it.
“Clearly the big bosses at Nine believe they’ve struck talent gold with the likeable Aussie sisters.”
The sisters’ ties to Nine date back to before their foray into reality TV. Eliza worked as an assistant to Hamish Blake and Andy Lee during their time with the network.
Meanwhile, the casting speculation comes as viewers have called for this season’s new Guides, best friends Karly and Bri, to be given a one-way ticket off the show.
“They are the wrong fit,” said one unimpressed viewer online last week.
