The Travel Guides are going for gold on an Olympics French holiday!
With 90 million tourists visiting each year, France holds the record for the most visited country in the world.
When it comes to the Olympics, French fencers have won more Olympic medals than any other sport. With over 100 medals, it’s the country’s most successful sport.

“Is this dangerous?” Janetta quizzed before taking a lesson from a French fencing master.

To kick start their lessons, the Guides stopped by the most historic and prestigious fencing academy in Paris, France – Salle D’armes Coudurier.

“Fencing of course, started hundreds and hundreds of years ago with duels,” explained Kevin.
“Well, it was a duel to the death,” Janetta pointed out.

The Guides were assured that it’s now a very safe and popular pastime with protective head gear and chest wear, or the “Madonna plastic bra” as Kevin described it.
Joining them were the Fren family, who had all the gear and no idea…
“I mean how hard is it?” Mark Fren brushed off. “You’ve just got to flick the sword around and just try and stick someone.”
While Kevin made clear: ”The master took no prisoners, he was serious about his fencing and if we did something wrong, he told us.

Travellers too can get take a stab at fencing, with four lessons at the academy from $200 per person.
“Do you think we’re ready for the Olympics yet?” Kevin asked looking very chuffed with himself.

“Fencing is one of those sports, like golf, that is easy to learn but very hard to master,” he chortled.
But that’s not the only fun the Guides had in France. They took on a very interesting underground tour, and climbed the stairs to “Heaven” on earth.
